Classes and Curriculum

BMH-BJ’s preschool classes are small and intimate with low teacher-student ratios and plenty of one-to-one interaction with the students.  The classrooms enable children to develop an essential sense of their own self-worth, confidence and the willingness to explore the new or unfamiliar, and the ability to play and interact socially with others.

The BMH-BJ Preschool teachers develop a positive curriculum in which children learn the basics to prepare them for their soon-to-begin careers as students.  Jewish holidays are celebrated in class, helping children get a sense of the ruach (the spirit of their religion and culture). From the earliest ages, the children begin to learn Hebrew songs, the Shema, brachot and other Jewish prayers.

BMH-BJ Preschool values the journey of the early childhood educational experience. Our shared vision is that we continue to work to become a place where we:

Inclusion and Respect     Kesher & Kavod    קשר וכבוד

Recognize, nurture and appreciate the abilities and potential of all children and adults.

  • We work as a unified team, sharing each other’s strengths and skills.
  • We practice and value honest, direct and open communication.

Family connections       Mishpacha            משפחה

  • Value parent-teacher partnerships.
  • Are dedicated to our relationships with children, colleagues, and the preschool and synagogue families.

Learning                 Limmud                      לימוד

  • Create a welcoming, nurturing, respectful and educational environment with an eye toward school readiness skills.
  • Promote independence, thinking and problem solving.
    • Deepen our knowledge through professional development/continuing education opportunities around the contemporary practice in early childhood education.
    • Have opportunities for parents and teachers to learn together.
    • Incorporate seamless Judaism, Shabbat, Holidays, Brachot, Tefilot, Mitzvot, and Hebrew.

Celebrations          Chagigot         חגיגות

  • Integrate Jewish values and practices into daily, weekly and holiday experiences.
  • Nurture Jewish identity and values.
  • Encourage joyful connections to the celebrations of the Jewish calendar

Repair of the World    Tikkun Olam    תיקון עולם

  • Support and respect children’s connections to the natural world.
  • Respect all living things.
  • Help the community at large.
  • Support meaningful connections to the concepts of tzedakah, brachot and mitzvot.
