Woman to Woman: Kol Nashim Concert Benefiting the Jerusalem Shelter for Battered Women

For the fifth consecutive year, Kol Nashim is proud to present Woman to Woman: Concerts Benefitting the Jerusalem Shelter for Battered Women. The Jerusalem Shelter provides a safe haven for women and children from all walks of Israeli life, as well as ongoing social services, and a unique children's center. The Shelter also operates a dozen halfway apartments intended for women who on the path towards independent living.

As in previous years, all donations collected on behalf of the Shelter will be matched by an anonymous donor.

Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 7:00 pm, the women of Kol Nashim perform for the first time at Congregation BMH-BJ. This program will feature guest soloist Estelle Nadel. A child survivor of the Holocaust, and longtime member of the Colorado Hebrew Chorale, Estelle will sing “A Yiddish Kind (A Jewish Child)”, a Holocaust song from Lithuania, arranged by Leah Peer. Additionally on the program, “Ka’asher Berachti Al HaNerot (When I Blessed the Candles)”, a newly composed piece by Denver native Julie Geller, which premiered at the Chorales “Raisins & Almonds: A Tu B’Shvat Celebration” on January 28, 2018.

The theme for this year’s concerts is “Voices of Strong Women”, featuring a varied selection of music in Hebrew and English. Ranging from Israeli standards to a set of Broadway numbers, the texts examine different types of strength through a woman’s perspective. In addition to the music, attendees will hear survivor stories of women and children who have benefitted from the Jerusalem shelter’s services, read by Kol Nashim members.
