Kavod on the Road: The Jewish Cemeteries of Denver

Thursday, November 6, 2025 15 Cheshvan 5786

11:00 AM - 12:00 PMgallery

Dealing with the dead was a prime responsibility of early Jewish Denver. The Hebrew Burial and Prayer Society was the city’s first Jewish communal organization. It oversaw a cemetery located near the current parking garage of Botanic Gardens. What happened to that burial ground, the rise of Emanuel Cemetery at Fairmount Cemetery, Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Nebo, and Golden Hill will be the subject of this talk. It includes who is buried where and what they did. Mention is made of both saints and scoundrels. The lecture reflects on the nature of Jewish Denver as a whole. Denver native Phil Goodstein has just completed Denver Jewish Cemeteries. Copies will be available for purchase at the event for a cash discount.
