In partnership with Museo de Las Americas and the Mizel Museum, an exclusive showing of Children of the Inquisition will be held at BMH-BJ. Lovett Stories and Strategies, an award-winning film company in New York City has spent the last ten years exploring this meaningful subject. Children of the Inquisition tells the story of families forced to convert to Catholicism or flee during the Spanish and Portuguese inquisitions via Inquisition records and detailed historical accounts, the full story emerges, to be told by riveting interviews with descendants of many backgrounds. Filmed on location from Madrid to Jamaica and from El Paso to Seattle, as well as other locales, the narrative features commentary by leading academics and the descendants themselves. The document features descendants of this time who are discovering the connections between their family history and Judaism. Our own congregant, Corinne Brown, has been privileged to follow this film's development since its inception.
The film recently debuted at the Seattle Jewish Film Festival and has yet to be released to the public. A meet and greet with the film’s director and producer Joseph Lovett will take place before the film. Following the showing of Children of the Inquisition there will be a discussion with Mr. Lovett.
