Sarina Kopinsky is a licensed, board-certified Genetic Counselor (GC). What is a genetic counselor? Why is the DNA we inherit from our parents so awesome? What can we learn from DNA testing? She will explain.

Sarina immigrated from South Africa to Denver in 1991, together with her husband Brian and young children.

She had a Master’s degree in Genetics from University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and became certified as a Genetic Counselor through UCDenver’s genetic counseling training program.

As Senior Education and Training officer at the Genetic Services division of South Africa’s Department of Health, Sarina presented training programs to healthcare professionals across the country and conducted education programs for the public.

Here in Denver, she served as a Laboratory Genetic Counselor at the DNA Diagnostic Lab at Anschutz campus. At Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia she was a Research Coordinator and a Clinical Genetic Counselor specializing in Cardiology and Ophthalmology.

She is now retired and enjoys pursuing her hobbies — teaching Genetics through Wyzant tutoring company, attending Genetics webinars to stay up to date, teaching Hebrew to adults and bar and bat mitzvah kids, ‘reading’ audiobooks, attending classical music concerts, taking Iyengar yoga classes, and staying in touch with family and friends.
